Alchemy and Sparta: Bringing SureSort to North America

Sparta Manufacturing is our distributor and systems integrator for SureSort across North America — bringing Alchemy's optical sorting technology into Sparta's single-stream recycling systems for municipalities and MRFs across the continent.

Why this partnership works

Sparta has spent decades designing and building recycling systems in North America, with deep relationships across municipal and private MRFs of all sizes. Rather than treating SureSort as an add-on, Sparta integrates it directly into the systems they design and build — conveyors, structural steel, and controls engineered around the SureSort lanes from the outset, rather than retrofitted after the fact.

That integration is the difference between bolting on a piece of equipment and delivering a properly engineered system. It's also the same approach that underpinned our work together on the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority (CCRRA) project in Pennsylvania — a project we've covered in more detail elsewhere on this website, where Sparta engineered the system around SureSort from initial design through to a fully operating dual-lane install.

Making automation accessible to more MRFs

A big part of what drew Sparta and Alchemy together is a shared view on where the recycling industry has been underserved. As Sparta put it in their own write-up of the partnership, larger MRFs have had access to optical sorting automation for years, while smaller and mid-sized facilities have often faced cost and space barriers that put automation out of reach — even though they're arguably the ones who'd benefit most from it.

SureSort's multi-lane design — sorting every commodity in a single pass rather than dedicating one machine per material — is built specifically to close that gap. Paired with Sparta's systems engineering, it means more municipalities and MRFs across North America can access real automation without needing to build at the scale of a major metro facility.
